Workforce Equality Standard Lead: Professor Anton Emmanuel
Professor Emmanuel led NHS England's Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES) program and, joined the NHS Wales Shared Service Partnership in 2023 to lead on the implementation of the WRES in Wales.
A Professor of Neuro-Gastroenterology at University College London and Consultant Gastroenterologist at University College Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Professor Emmanuel has also recently held the role of interim Director of Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) at NHS England.
Focussing on ensuring data drives accountability within organisations, Professor Emmanuel has brought his experience from NHS England to ensure the development of the WRES in Wales is impactful. Over time, the WRES will also be a means by which to measure change and the impact of other actions in the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan which aims to ensure Wales is an anti-racist nation by 2030.
Professor Emmanuel is supported by a Project Implementation Group with Welsh Government officials and key delivery partners.
